The Temecula Rod Run has become the laughing stock of the hot rod community. What use to be a proud, historic event has turned into nothing but a profit driven monopoly of narcistic megalomaniacs. The event use to be permitted to American made vehicles that dated 1974 and earlier ONLY! It even states on the "official web site" that "Only pre 74 Cars are allowed to register.", however as you can see by the actual registered vehicles in these photos, this statement is not true.

When the event was ran by the now defunct Temecula Town Association, vehicles had to pass a screening process to ensure it had the caliber and qualifications necessary to enter the event, nowadays all you have to do is pay a registration fee and show up.

You can also notice the vendors permitted to operate at the event are no longer related to anything automotive, who really wants to see a vendor selling bed sheets or dog food at a car show? There was a time not so long ago that the only vendor allowed to register HAD to be automotive related.

It's also curious to note, that for tax year 2011, the organizers of the event, who are a registered non-profit group, reported more than $102,000 in profit, yet less than $2000 went to the Boys & Girls Club, (who is suppose to receive all proceeds as per the event web site), but yet reported to the IRS that they gave almost $4000 to the CNATT Training Detachment Camp Pendleton. Why is a non-profit making donations to a Government entity? Hey City of Temecula, perhaps it's time to take a closer look at the books of this event...
